Delhi will proudly host the first ever Commonwealth Games to be held in India from 3rd to 14th October 2010. Approximately 8,000 athletes and officials from all 71 nations and territories of the Commonwealth will participate in 17 sports to be conducted in 23 world class sports venues.
On 5th June 2010, the Centre in association of Central Pollution Control Board (Ministry of Environment and Forest), organized various educational programmes to celebrate World Environment Day. The theme of the year was Many Species-One Planet-One Future.
30 numbers of Summer Vacation Hobby Camps for school students were organized from 17th May to 4th June 2010. Students from class 2nd to 10th participated in different streams of camps such as Creative Art (Junior & Senior), Learning Science through Fun, Exploring Nature, Astrolab (Telescope Making), Science behind Miracles, Life skills Development & Fun with Fins (Aquarium Making), Wonders of Electronics-Basic and Wonders of Electronics-Advanced.
The Centre, in collaboration with Expression India, a reputed NGO working as a National Peer Educators Forum the benefit of school children organized ‘Life Skills Development programme’ for school students and teachers on 23rd April 2010. School students from various schools of Delhi and NCR region Participated in the programme.
A workshop on 'Interactive Science Teaching in Class rooms' for science teachers was organized jointly with Vigyan Prasar on 27th & 28th April 2010. The purpose of the workshop was to encourage teaching science concepts through experimentation to spread and promote scientific temperament among the students as well as teachers,
The National Science Centre, organized, The Environment Education and Awareness Programme on the Earth Day, in association with TERI (The Energy Research Institute), North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on 20th and 21st April. The main thrust and objective of the week long activities was to create sensitivity amongst the school students about the urgent need to protect the environment.
The Centre organized Annual science Quiz contest for students of Delhi & NCR on 30th January, 3rd & 5th February 2010. The screening round (written test) was conducted on 30th January 2010 and 32 teams were selected for quarter & semi final round which is to be held in February 2010.
The Centre organized Northern India Science Fair in collaboration with SCERT and SIE of northern states from 18h to 20th January 2010. 66 projects in individual, team and teaching aid category were displayed in this fair. Dr. W. Selvamurthy, Distinguished Scientist, Chief Controller, R& D (Life Science) DRDO, New Delhi inaugurated the fair on 18th January 2010.
